How to restore TikTok after deactivating your account

Note that, this restoring your account can only be done within the first 30 days of deactivating your account. Otherwise, your account will be permanently deleted.

To retrieve your data, login into your account as normal. A dialog box will pop up. Click the “Reactivate” button to restore your account. Your data will reappear and you can continue making fun videos for your audience.

What do you lose when you delete or deactivate your TikTok Account?

When you reach the final step to deleting your account, a popup dialog will appear sharing the following information:

You’ll have no access to your account

Media outlets in 2019 cited TikTok as the 7^th most downloaded mobile app of the decade (2010 to 2019). If all this wasn’t enough, during the years 2018 and 2019 it was the most downloaded app in the Apple App store. It achieved this incredible feat beating the likes of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and even YouTube.

I think at this point, it is safe to say TikTok is a well-known app. Let’s now focus our attention on how to enjoy some of the very best TikTok has to offer, watching live streams.

How to Watch Livestreams on TikTok

In this article I’m going to be focusing on how to watch livestreams for users that have signed up for TikTok. Apparently there is a simple way to do this for non-registered users but like I said, I won’t be covering that. When you’ve decided which livestream you’ll like to watch, go ahead and click on their profile picture. This will take you immediately to their livestream where you’ll be able to drop comments, leave likes and even gifts.

At any point if you’d like to stop watching the particular livestream you’re on you can simply tap on the “X” icon located at the top right of the page. You’ll be taken back to the Following page that shows you all profiles that are currently live. At this point you may choose to watch another livestream or do something else. Future of TikTok

The year 2020 has seen TikTok continue its rise in popularity as well as its many legal challenges. This is especially true when it comes to the American portion of its business. Things got so severe that at one point TikTok considered selling its assets. But how did this begin, to answer this we’ll have to go down memory lane.

It was August 6 2020, when United States President Donald Trump signed an executive order which would in effect ban TikTok in 45 days unless it was sold to an American buyer.

On 14 August 2020, Trump issued another order which gave ByteDance(Chinese parent of TikTok) just 90 days to sell or diversify its U.S. TikTok operations. In the order, Trump cited a threat to national security saying that there was “credible evidence” that led him to believe that ByteDance “might take action that threatens to impair the national security of the United States.” TikTok was in trouble and It was rumoured that Walmart, Oracle and Microsoft were in talks to purchase a portion of TikTok’s American assets. At this it seemed like it would be the end for TikTok but there were some more legal battles ahead.

On September 18, just a few days before the August 6 ban would have taken effect, TikTok filed a lawsuit, TikTok v. Trump. On 23 September, to avoid being banned by the Trump administration, TikTok filed a request for a preliminary injunction. U.S. judge Carl J. Nichols blocked the ban, thus temporarily allowing TikTok to remain available in the U.S. app stores. However there were additional Commerce Department restrictions set to take place 12 November 2020 that were not touched. These restrictions could have a larger impact on TikTok’s operations in the U.S. So with that the purchasing deadline was pushed to November 12.

On October 30, Pennsylvania Judge Wendy Beetlestone ruled against the Commerce Department after some TikTok influencers filed a lawsuit. This blocked the Commerce Department from restricting TikTok. When November 12 came, the Commerce Department in a statement said that in order to comply with the Pennsylvania ruling, it would not try to enforce the restrictions against TikTok that had been scheduled to take effect November 12.

However the fight wasn’t over. The Commerce Department appealed the original ruling in TikTok v. Trump. In what can be considered a legal victory for TikTok, on December 7 2020, Washington D.C. district court judge Carl J. Nichols granted a preliminary injunction against the Commerce Department, protecting TikTok from further restrictions being imposed on them. The case is continuing.

Conclusion

TikTok is a hugely popular app that probably became even more popular in 2020 due to the lockdown restrictions. It is fun and exciting to use but can be very addictive.

However, it has many privacy and security concerns, concerns that had seen it almost banned in the U.S. and outrightly banned in some other countries.  

It seems like for now and the foreseeable future, TikTok is here to stay.

Periscope livestreaming service is indeed shutting down. Twitter has made it official and going live on periscope will soon become a thing of the past.

However, we will have some alternative services that you could look into if you have been using Periscope’s live features for a long time.

Periscope became super popular when Twitter acquired it for approximately $86 million. At the same time, five years ago, we also had Meerkat and Houseparty as viable alternatives. Is Periscope Shutting Down?

I’m just as disheartened as you are by this news and there is no other way to say it!

Yes, Periscope will be shut down by Twitter, the parent company. They originally purchased the app in 2015 but it didn’t last even five years before this tough decision has been made. According to Twitter, they really couldn’t operate the services because of the high costs of operation and users are no longer using it as much as Twitter wanted them to.

The final date for the app to be discounted both on iOS and Android platforms is 31^st, March 2021.

The team also confirmed that if you haven’t already created an ID, you may not be able to do so because it will be shut down even earlier. Potentially, it means that not many users could go on board at this point in time.

Periscope is not the only app that has met this fate because earlier in 2017, Vine, a similar app that resembled Tik Tok, was removed from the portfolio. The problem according to Twitter and many other technology firms is that they couldn’t find a viable business model to support users.

With tons of data being uploaded on a daily basis, it costs a lot to maintain the servers and continue offering the service.

What are some of the Alternatives to Periscope?

I have already downloaded the videos I had saved on Periscope and if you have a huge collection, make sure to download all your data before March 2021 when the deadline ends.

Finding a viable alternative for Periscope shouldn’t be a huge task at this point in time. I have been regularly using some of these services and these alternatives would come in handy after Periscope is fully shut down in 2021.

This alternative needs no introduction but it should be added to this list. Just pull your smartphone out, open the Facebook app and you can start streaming live videos directly. Be it an event, birthday party or a massive public gathering, everything goes live on FB and gains the necessary momentum quickly.

Meerkat

In the year 2020, Meerkat became exceptionally popular because people started working from home out of the blue and the live streaming app gained traction like no other. It is simple, easy to use and works on multiple platforms including iOS, Android thus making it a favorite among its user community.

YouTube Live

This is another popular alternative to Periscope because it allows people to effortlessly stream live video to millions of people. If you want to upload a video on YouTube, then doing it via YouTube Live would make it easier. Bidding Farewell to Periscope Live Streaming

I am among hundreds of others who would want Periscope to stay but as with all technological innovations, some of the services get shut down sooner than later. Google has been doing it for years now and it is no wonder Twitter may do it once now. I wouldn’t claim that I have been using this live streaming service because Twitter and Facebook offer better alternatives.

I tried it for myself and even though I knew I haven’t been exactly on the good list this year it felt real and comforting to hear Santa call my name.

Their premium services include interactive or live video calls with Santa along. Currently they’re offering special limited time offers that allow free trials of their services. Frankly there’re a lot of services they offer, too many to put down. Their premium services price range from $4.99 for a single premium call (video or audio) to $14.99 (currently on $13.99) for their Magic Pass and $39.99 for their Ultimate Magic Pass. A simple Magic Pass on their platform would be a better option in my opinion but depending on your needs you can choose anyone.

JingleRing

Traditionally Santa has been white and spoke only English but for some people they may prefer a Santa that speaks their language and is closely related to their faith. I am happy to say Jingle Ring provides you just that, and it’s virtual too. So let’s say you would prefer a white Mrs Claus, Black Santa, Black Mrs. Claus they have you covered. Their Santa is available in both English and Spanish. They also have a Santa that is available for children with special needs.

It is however an entirely premium service with no free trials currently. When trying to book a visit, I found out during a call to Santa, they currently only support Google Chrome, Firefox and Microsoft Edge browsers but no Safari. This is something iOS users should note. Conclusion

Growing up, Christmas was very special for me as it is for children these days as well. These days my Christmas tradition involves me spending time with family and friends, exchanging gifts, donating to orphanages. As a kid, I’d have been really bummed out that I couldn’t go to see Santa. I’d usually drag my parents to the mall for the chance to see Santa.

Understandably with everything happening around us this year with COVID-19, all in person Santa visits are being canceled. Most people who have performed as Santa for years have been left unemployed or have moved their services online. The acceptable age for TikTok users is 13 years and above. The website has strict rules to the age limit in line with the children’s online privacy protection act.

This action on TikTok came after they paid a $5.7 million settlement with the federal trade commission for violating the children’s online privacy protection act. Following that, strict rules came in place and any account with a user under the age of 12 is automatically deleted.

To prevent users from lying about the age, TikTok made it nearly impossible for users to change their app’s birth date.

Furthermore, TikTok’s in-app age limit features a live stream feature that only applies to those with at least 1000 followers and 16 years of age. To receive any virtual gifts from fans during a live stream, you have to be above 18 years of age.

According to the TikTok safety center, this limited experience prevents users from sharing videos, messaging other users, or maintaining a profile or followers.

This helps minimize sexual harassment, sharing inappropriate videos, and spamming. Users can only watch appropriate videos for entertainment until they reach 18 years and above.

Is there a way to change your age on TikTok?

There is no direct way for changing your age on TikTok. Once you fill in your birth date when signing in, that’s it. However, there’s a way you can correct that but requires some effort and a little patience. Here’s how you go about it;

Launch the TikTok app on your smartphone

Log into your profile

Tap on the three dots at the top right corner

Scroll down to the logout option

Once you complete this, go back to the homepage and click on the ‘ME’ option

Once you sign up once again, you will have to choose the phone or email option

This option will direct you to the page where you’re required to fill in your birthday details

Change your birth date, which will update your age on your account

Then log in through a phone number or email, which you can do using the account that you have on TikTok.

Note that you’ll need to provide proof of age in the form of a government-issued ID to fix the problem or a passport.

When you report a problem with the app, you also need proof of age, and TikTok will change it when you issue your government ID. The identification cards are the only acceptable proof required. You can also use your school ID or your driving license if you have one.

What do I do if my account is deactivated?

If your account is deactivated, click the ‘report a problem’ button inside the TikTok app or on the TikTok website. This option will allow you to fill out a form and file a dispute with TikTok. You will need to provide your government ID proving that you are 13 years and above.

If your account is deleted for being below the age limit, you will receive an email with your videos attached. You can download your videos to your phone or computer. If you encounter problems downloading the videos from the attached email, a chrome extension will help you out.

When you are 13, your account can be activated even though there isn’t any official statement to support this from TikTok. Tiktok users allow an age-appropriate environment, in line with FTC guidelines for the mixed audience apps. After surpassing the age limit, you gain access to the appropriate app experience.

Now we have covered how cameo started, let’s focus on how to live stream with Cameo. When first signing up for the service you have the option to sign up using a Facebook profile, an email or through a VIP invite. After filling in the typical user information you’re set to go. At the bottom of your screen you’ll see you have 5 options on what you can do.

You can search for celebrities, watch cameos made by different celebrities, visit your messages if you have initiated any conversation with a celebrity, monitor past activity on your account and finally edit your profile.

The first option (a microscope icon) allows you to search for a particular celebrity by name or by going through Cameo’s catalogue of celebrities. Their current catalogue includes athletes, musicians, actors, even some past political figures. I tried searching for Keanu Reeves but at the moment he isn’t on the Cameo platform. A quick search for Joseph Morgan however was successful. When you find a particular celebrity you like, their profile shows you a bunch of information

While on their profile you can either request a video message or a direct message. On some profiles you get both options, while on others you only get one. Still on their profile, you’ll see information like their average response time to requests. This can vary from a few hours to 7 days. There’re also reviews available to help you decide if this celebrity is right for you.

If you decide to go for a video message, you’ll be asked to specify if it’s for you or someone else as a gift. After this you’ll be asked some basic information needed to personalize the message. With all information required filled out you can then proceed to pay for your video message (also called Cameo). Your receipt and order updates will be sent to the email provided under delivery information. When your request is completed, you’ll be emailed and texted a link to view, share or download your Cameo. Also if for some reason your video isn’t completed, the hold on your card will be removed within 5-7 business days.

On the other hand, you choose to go for a direct message. However there is no guarantee that you’ll get a reply, so I doubt many people will go for this option.

You also have the option to join their fan club. Membership is free with members having their Cameo video requests prioritized, so you can expect your response time to be shorter than what is displayed on the celebrity’s profile. You also have access to their previous Cameos and you get alerts each time there is a price drop or deal available. So it’s recommended you join.

Just How Many Celebrities are there on Cameo App?

There are currently more than 30,000 celebrities on the platform with that number expected to grow. There are celebrities under different categories.

I guess it should be expected, considering the number of fans these celebrities have, having to reply to each of them would take significant effort.

Some celebrities use the proceeds for their cameos to fund charities so there is extra value there. However things can get quite expensive for some. We’re talking about $999 for a cameo from celebrities like Floyd Mayweather, Criss Angel. 

He charges a whopping $1200 for a cameo. Of course these are the pricier options, there are other celebrities that charge significantly lower.

I’m talking about celebrities such as actress Carla Jeffery, you may remember her from the Disney movie Z-O-M-B-I-E-S 2 or Boxer Brawln Barnes who charges $7 for a video cameo. Depending on your financial status or preference you may find cameo to be an awesome app or a total waste of money.

In my opinion there isn’t a platform that offers the same services that cameo does, it is intriguing to say the least. Receiving a personalized shout out from your favourite celebrity as a gift is bound to impress almost anyone. Many people have chosen to use cameo for that purpose, you can very well decide to have a cameo made just for yourself.

However it can be pricey for some, it’s just something you can’t ignore. If you end up going for a cameo you’re going to love it. With the number of celebrities on the platform, finding one you are a fan of is very likely.

To livestream your favorite moments on Facebook on android you’ll have to follow a few steps

• Tap the “Live” icon (it has an eye inside a camera as an icon). You’ll find the icon under “What’s on your mind?”

• Accept the permissions it requests (Facebook requires access to your camera and microphone during the duration of your livestream)

• Select your target audience (this can be set to Public, Friends, People tagged, …)

• Add a video description (this is so people get an idea what your livestream is about, it’s optional)

• Tap “Start Live Video” button and that’s it, you’re live

• At any point if you want to end your livestream simply tap on “Finish” icon (you should know the maximum duration for a livestream is 30 minutes currently. Maybe it’ll change later). After tapping on finish your livestream is paused and you have the option to either resume by tapping on cancel or letting it end.

• After ending your livestream you can choose to upload it in HD, post it to your timeline or do both.

What is Facebook Live?

Facebook Live has been around for a couple of years, it’s been five years now as my friends never cease to remind me. During these years it has made some changes to get to where it is now. 

According to Wikipedia, in August 2015 Facebook began to allow users to live stream video. Streams appear on the News Feed, and users can comment on them in real-time. It is that simple. Live broadcasts are automatically saved as a video post to the streamer’s page. The feature was brought in by Facebook to offer competition to some rival services at the time such as Meerkat and Periscope. 

The feature at the beginning was meant only for verified public figures through the Facebook Mentions app (which is also exclusive to these users). It wasn’t until January 2016 that Live streaming began to roll out for public use, beginning with the Facebook iOS app in the United States. 

In April 2016, Facebook unveiled a live-streaming API (application program interface), aimed to allow developers to use any device, including professional video cameras and drones, to integrate with the live-video streaming platform. Facebook also updated its mobile app to provide a dedicated section for showcasing current and recent live broadcasts. To encourage people to use it, Facebook provided incentives to publishers and celebrities to perform live broadcasts, including monetary rewards. 

In March 2017, Facebook extended their live-streaming support to PCs. In May, Facebook Live was updated on iOS to let two users livestream together and the following month, Facebook added support for closed captioning to live video.

At the end of 2017, Facebook Live was updated to offer support for livestreaming Facebook Messenger games. 

Fun features of Facebook Live

I have been playing around with Facebook Live for a couple of days now, so let me share some of the fun features I found with you. As you’d expect, aside from being a popular tool used for connecting with so many people, Facebook Live actually has lots of features to help improve users’ experience. 

• Video description

For instance, while livestreaming you have the option of making adjustments to your video description. When I initially tested Facebook Live I was in a hurry to see what it was like so I just went ahead with a pretty lame video description. It wasn’t until the livestream started that I had realized how lazy I had been with “Livestream” as a description. Throughout the duration of my livestream I changed the video description maybe 7 times (I can be very indecisive).

• Adjustable target audience

Another feature I found interesting was that some of your viewers could join in your livestream. You have the option of setting permissions in place for this, so not just anyone joins without your permission. It was fun and exciting to connect with friends like this. You also have the option to add specific viewers to your livestream. 

• Visual effects

Facebook Live on android offers a variety of options when it comes to your selection of visual effects. From the effects tools (an icon of a magic wand with a star) you see a bunch of different visual effect options.

The first option (a star icon) is a collection of various effects that people have used the most. So in case you’re confused on what to pick you can head over here to get an idea of what others have found useful or think is cool.

The next option (a clock icon) contains the history of all the visual effects you have used in the past. I find this really useful whenever I’m trying to figure out the last effect I applied and liked. 

The third option (a mask icon) shows you different types of effects including 3D avatars. Some can only be applied to the back camera but most work on both cameras. 

The fourth option (an icon with 3 stars) allows you to change the video effects. Honestly these are the features I use the most. Personally the 3d effect and the mirror effect options are the ones I use the most because of their simplicity.

The fifth option (a frame icon) gives you the option to pick from a lot of cool and frankly amazing frame designs. I haven’t gone through them all but I’m sure you’ll definitely find something you like there.

Lastly you get the option to write text across your screen if you’re using a touch enabled device. This is different from writing a video description or comments. It appears across the screen like it was handwritten, which it was really. Frankly I don’t know when I’d like to use this but it looks cool. You can change the color of the text from a list of options, you can undo a text you have written or delete everything on your screen.

Anyway, there you have it. Aside from these features there are lots more you can pick and choose from. If you’re interested in finding out how long you have been on Facebook Live, you just need to tap on the live icon during your livestream. I haven’t really gone in depth so I can only talk about what I know. Feel free to try them out for yourself.

When to use Facebook Live   

For me I find, if you own a blog or a business, Facebook Live would be a solid way for you to connect with your audience. It allows better interaction when compared to, for instance, just replying a bunch of mails received. It is also a way for you to offer feedback to questions regarding a product you are marketing if you run a business or during a seminar. There are also use cases where you can use Facebook Live to livestream an event for others who couldn’t attend or the other way around. Quite frankly we’re just scratching the surface when it comes to what’s written in this article, there are numerous ways people use Facebook Live in their day to day activities.
